If you’ve landed here looking for practical fitness advice for dads, ideas for staying active, or just an honest look at what it takes to keep showing up when life gets busy—you’re in the right place.
Welcome to the FitDad blog.
FitDad started in Emerald, Queensland, with a pretty simple idea: dads need somewhere to train, have a laugh and spend time around a good group of blokes.
Not another hardcore bootcamp. Not a place where you need to already be fit before you turn up. And definitely not somewhere that expects dads to pretend they have unlimited free time.
FitDad is a boys club membership built around fitness, mateship and becoming a better version of yourself.
Fitness That Works Around Dad Life
Being a dad can make looking after your own fitness difficult.
There’s work, kids’ sport, family commitments, shift work, jobs around the house and all the other stuff that somehow fills the week. Training is often the first thing to get pushed aside.
That doesn’t mean dads don’t care about their health. Most of the time, they just need something that feels realistic.
Our weekly FitDad workouts are designed to get dads moving, building strength and improving their fitness without taking the whole thing too seriously. Some weeks we lift heavy things. Some weeks we work on mobility. Sometimes we run a course or take the entire crew somewhere unexpected.
Every workout is different, but the goal stays the same: get a good session in and leave feeling better than when you arrived.
More Than a Saturday Workout
FitDad meets every Saturday morning in Emerald, but it has never been about selling one workout a week.
The session brings everyone together, but the real value is in the community being built around it.
It’s having a group of blokes who notice when you haven’t been around. It’s supporting another dad when work or family life gets heavy. It’s sharing advice, having a laugh and knowing you’ve got somewhere you belong.
We’ve got dads at different ages, fitness levels and stages of life. We also welcome positive male role models as Fit Uncs. You don’t need to be the fittest person there. You only need to be willing to get involved.
What You’ll Find on the FitDad Blog
This blog gives us somewhere to go deeper than we can in a quick Instagram post.
We’ll be sharing useful information about:
- Fitness and strength training for dads
- Training around injuries, sore joints and old niggles
- Mobility and moving better
- Fat loss and nutrition without overcomplicating it
- Staying active around work and family commitments
- FitDad workouts, events and challenges
- Fatherhood, community and men’s health
- Lessons and stories from the FitDad crew
The aim isn’t to fill the internet with more perfect fitness advice written for people who have two spare hours every day.
We want to talk about fitness for real dads with busy lives.
Some posts will give you something practical to try. Others might explain why we do certain things at FitDad. And sometimes we’ll simply share what the crew has been getting up to.
You Don’t Need to Have It All Sorted
A lot of dads wait for the right time to start training again.
When work settles down. When the kids get older. When the knee stops playing up. When they lose a bit of weight first.
The problem is, dad life rarely becomes completely quiet.
You don’t need to have everything sorted before you begin. You just need a place to start and a reason to keep showing up.
That’s what FitDad is here for.
So have a look around, take whatever is useful and check back as we add more to the blog. If you’re a dad in Emerald looking for outdoor group fitness, a stronger routine and a solid group of blokes to do it alongside, come down and see what FitDad is about.
We’ll see you in The Yard.
